DENVER – The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) has selected ten participants for the Supportive Training for Advocates on Research and Science (STARS) Program to attend the IASLC 2019 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) in Barcelona, Spain.
The STARS Program, funded by AMGEN, is a new program that aims to increase the number of Patient Research Advocates (PRAs) equipped to provide accurate scientific translation in their online or real-life lung cancer patient/caregiver groups, and to provide the patient perspective for lung cancer research and policy.
Of the ten participants, there are 5 mentors and 5 PRAs. The individuals selected have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to lung cancer advocacy through activities or educating others about lung cancer. The Mentors & PRAs selected include:

STARS Mentors and PRAs will receive complimentary registration to attend the IASLC WCLC. At the WCLC, they will be educated about the scientific process and how to read research articles and presentations. They will also be trained on how to best communicate the importance of scientific research for lung cancer.
After the meeting, each PRA will receive continuous education opportunities to complete the STARS Program and build relationships between themselves and IASLC members who are directly involved in research.
