DENVER – The Romanian Association for Services and Communication in Oncology (ASPCO) will receive the Advocate Travel Award from the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) at the IASLC 2019 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) in Barcelona, Spain, in September.
ASPCO is a volunteer-based organization that supports Romanian lung cancer patients. Through involvement with the IASLC, ASPCO is hoping to help share the “Hope Lives” advocacy message about Romanian lung cancer patients and survivors during Lung Cancer Awareness Month in November.
“Lung cancer burden and mortality rate are significant problems in Romania,” said Csaba Laszlo Degi, a patient advocate for ASPCO. “We want to increase lung cancer patients’ voices through transformative research. Our final goal with research is to have compassionate and supportive treatment for all cancer patients, making lung cancer survivorship visible in all of Romania.”
As an Advocate Travel Award winner, ASPCO will receive complimentary conference registration, a fixed monetary amount to help offset travel costs, four nights’ accommodation at one of the Conference contracted hotels and free IASLC membership for 2020, allowing ASPCO to continue their advocacy for lung cancer.
