DENVER – Hisao Asamura, M.D. of Keio University School of Medicine in Toyko, will be recognized by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) with the IASLC Merit Award at the IASLC 2019 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) in Barcelona, Spain. The award honors Dr. Asamura’s extraordinary contributions to the IASLC’s development. Dr. Asamura is a professor of surgery in the Division of Thoracic Surgery at Keio University School of Medicine in Tokyo. Dr. Asamura’s research has been published in several peer-reviewed journal articles, including the TNM Atlas and Operative Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Asamura has served as the executive board director of the IASLC and is currently the chair of the association’s Staging and Prognostic Factors Committee (SPFC). He was also the congress president for the IASLC 18th World Conference on Lung Cancer in Yokohama. In addition to participation in the IASLC, Dr. Asamura served as the vice president for the Japan Lung Cancer Society as well as national committee chair and section editor of the Union for International Cancer Control.
Dr. Asamura earned his undergraduate degree from Keio University School of Medicine. He finished his residency in general surgery and clinical fellowship in thoracic surgery at the National Cancer Center Hospital. He received his Doctor of Medical Science degree from Keio University in 1997.
Dr. Asamura will be honored on Sept. 7, 2019 at the Opening Ceremony of the IASLC 2019 WCLC in Barcelona, Spain. The IASLC WCLC is the world’s largest meeting dedicated to lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies, attracting more than 7,000 researchers, physicians and specialists from more than 100 countries.
